Season 23 in Overwatch Launches with Open Queue Mode

A new competitive season has begun in Overwatch. The developers have added a new ranked game mode with the start of season 23 – Open Queue.

The new mode does not have any role restrictions, meaning that players do not have to pre-select a role before joining a queue. The new mode will co-exist with Role Queue, with both of them having a separate Skill Rating.

Open Queue was added to the game as a response to the popularity of the earlier introduced arcade mode Quick Play Classic. The developers believe that two competitive modes will decrease queue time for both of them, as the Open Queue mode attracts mainly players who prefer to play as a DD, while the Role Queue mode is favourable for tank and support mains. If their predictions will be proved correct, the mode will remain available in the following seasons.

Earlier last month Blizzard decided to get rid of hero pools in all game modes and esports tournaments.
