Kosheckhin Got his Neck Wounded by a Skate

The Russian goaltender Vasily Koshechkin, who is currently playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, was injured during a match in the Kontinental Hockey League. The athlete’s neck was wounded by a skate.

What Happened

The incident happened during a game between Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Ak Bars Kazan, which was held on October 23rd.

On the 14th minute of the match his teammate fell on ice and accidently wounded the goaltender’s neck. As a result, Koshechkin immediately started to bleed.

Due to the injury, the 36-years-old Olympic champion was forced to leave the rink. First, the doctors put him on the bench, and then took him away from the arena. The athlete was replaced by another goaltender, Stanislav Galimov.

Fortunately, the wound was not very serious. Thanks to the prompt medical aid, Koshechkin was able to return to the rink and continue the game as if nothing happened.

Other Injuries

Vasily Koshechkin was not the only athlete to get hurt. During the third period, a forward player of Ak Bars Kazan Vladimir Tkachyov ran up against one of his opponents and fell on ice.

The doctors had to take him away by stretcher. He undergone a thorough medical check-up in a hospital. Fortunately, there were no life threatening injures found. Currently the athlete is mentally alert and getting rest in the hospital.

Match Results

After an overtime the match between the teams finished in a draw. Metallurg Magnitogorsk managed to beat their opponents by one goal in the penalty shootout. It should be mentioned that this is the third victory for the team in a row.

What Happens Next

The next match of Metallurg Magnitogorsk is scheduled for October 25th. The team will face Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. Incidentally, this very day will also mark the end of the group stage of CS:GO event EPICENTER 2019.
